Instant Pot Bamia

What is new about this recipe is that we are going to offer a new way of preparing it with the use of an Instant pot pressure cooker. This Mediterranean Okra Tomato stew makes a very good choice for a quick dinner.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • tablespoons of butter
  • 2 medium chopped onions
  • 1 tablespoon of chopped ginger
  • 6 sliced garlic cloves
  • 2 Pounds of chopped lamb meat
  • 3 cloves
  • 1 chopped red bell pepper
  • 1 tablespoon of mixed spices
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 2 black limes
  • 4 large tomatoes
  • 3 Tablespoons of tomato paste
  • 3 Tablespoons of tomato paste
  • 1 Pound of okra

Instructions

  • Set your instant pot on the function sauté.
  • In an Instant Pot, heat the ghee, add the onion, garlic and stir for a few minutes, until you get a golden color.
  • Add the meat, spices, cinnamon, turmeric, pepper, and salt and stir for 2 minutes to toast the spices and change the color of the meat.
  • Add the black lime, tomato, tomato paste and toss very well with the meat
  • Add in 1/2 cup of water.
  • Start the Instant Pot cover and put set the pressure to high for 15 minutes.
  • After the steam is gone, open the Instant Pot.
  • Add in the okra
  • Lock the Instant pot with its lid and pressure-cook for about 3 to 5 minutes
  • Turn off the pressure cooker and let the pressure release naturally for about 10 minutes
  • Ladle the Bamia in serving bowls
  • Serve and enjoy your Bamia!
